"La dolce vita" ~ The Good Life.

Good food, good drink and good cheer. One of the fundamental ways of creating union and sharing is by bringing everyone together around the table, be it for breakfast, lunch, teatime or the evening repast. I would encourage the members of this group to keep the idea of themes in mind and if you don't see an existing discussion for a type of food or drink, create one and invite others to post their recipes along with your contribution. So, Kiddos, let's get cookin'!

It's Johnny Appleseed Day! Can you imagine life without apples? I'm sure glad we don't have to.

hope we just post our recipes here, i use organic but if you dont thats okay it will work:)
organic smokey lentil soup:
3 organic smokey sausages skinned and chopped into pieces,
i jar organic tomatoes, 2 or 3 peppers, i use all three colors,
an onion, garlic , basil and oregano to taste,1 celery stalk chopped , 3 potatoes chopped, lg. can of lentils. pinch of cumin and celery seed, salt to taste and 1 bottle of dark ale beer, simmer till all vegies are soft , excelent on a cold day , and if you use celiac beer , its gluten free:)

I have been a celiac my whole life, but in the last 20 years i have tried my best to stay on a gluten free diet. in 2009 have come to the realization that i can only eat in my own kitchen. the older I get the less I can eat and the better I feel. probably what has saved me is the fact that I only eat organic foods, 95% of the time. I am in the process of writing a nutritional cook-book. more and more people are being diagnosed with celiac disease, not everyone has access to the internet, the word is still essential thanx J.J.

Thanks Bernie! My mom used to make Rhubarb pie when i was a girl. We had a good vegie garden back in Canada.
When we had a Nursery for Palms in Northern Qld, years ago before my partner passed, we used to get a semi tipper load of manure and let it break down, plus a load from the cane sugar mills of the black cane like a soot and the plants used to thrive. We used to dip them in a vitamin mix in a big drum filled with water before we repotted into a new pot and the trunks on them grew so big! They loved it!
Not much rain out here at the moment as the climate is changing in Oz but I have been singing my prayers to the thunderbeings and they have answered us and filled our tanks!!
Great information from a lady with a green thumb and I'll try some of those methods!
Talk to you agailn and maybe one day I can post up some results!!

Cheers! Wabun : )

Hi Wabun,

I have a veggie garden here in England, but it's pretty empty right now because winter is here and I think the rabbits took out my purple sprouting broccoli plants before they could get established. We had a good crop of tomatoes in the greenhouse, and string beans, peas and sweetcorn outside this summer though. The pear tree and the apple tree were loaded too. The key secret to growing is making sure the ground is well prepared and dug then feeding it with some old fashioned well rotted horse manure (that was not the first word that came into my mind lol) dig into the ground in the winter and leave it to work its magic then you have a good growing base for next year. Start your seedlings off indoors on a window sill or in a greenhouse in small pots or planting cells (the kind which you can plant directly into the ground because they are biodegradable and the roots can go through them) if you have the space and allow them to get big enough and strong enough to withstand slugs and snails, and before you plant them out put in slug/snail beer traps to keep them off the plants and keep the area well weeded and free of caterpillars. Planting marigolds amongst tomatoes keeps greenfly off them, and personally I have always planted a few cabbages to sacrifice to the caterpillars so that the other greens get a chance to grow unhindered, and the birds have a food source for their babies caterpillars provide good protein ;-)

Lots of water, the garden always needs a lot more than you imagine, so I keep a rainwater container down there to gather what comes off the gutters of the greenhouse. Oh also nettles if rotted down in water, make a good liquid plant food (although it smells a bit) and if you boil rhubarb leaves and then use the water to spray it gets rid of aphid (rhubarb leaves are highly toxic but the stalks boiled and sweetened with sugar are delicious for pies ;-)

That's my gardening tips, I'm sure there are many who will have better ones.

Love and Light

Ooh that brings back memories Gina....I grew up in Ontario, Canada where there was fruit farming on the outskirts of the town I came from and we used to go picking all the time, berries, tomatoes, peaches, pears, etc. and then go home where my dad and mom used to bottle all the fresh produce and make jams and store it in the crawlsbase under the house and in the winter we could enjoy fresh canned tomatoes and fresh peaches in their syrup and real maple syrup from the canadian maple trees my dad used to bring home to have on pancakes...yummy memories....

I'm hungry now....Food and the abundance of it on this earth is just so heart warming when you think about it...how lucky are we!!!

I'm growing my own pumpkin from the organic seeds I tossed into some dirt and they thrived so easy!!
I want a good garden of the best vegies and herbs to cultivate...hard work but will be so worth it!!

Maybe those with experience can post some good ideas to create a good vegetable & herb garden and how they best thrive....I have some books somewhere but for Australian and New Zealand Climate and Soil...
What do you think Soul Gardeners?!
